Arc Summary
The International Assassins Arc massively expands the Chainsaw Man universe. With Denji's identity as Chainsaw Man exposed to the world, assassins from every major nation converge on Japan. China sends Quanxi, the first devil hunter and Crossbow Hybrid, with her four fiend girlfriends. Germany sends Santa Claus, a Doll Devil contractor who can transform anyone she touches into a puppet. The Soviet Union sends Tolka and his team. Each assassin represents their nation's approach to devil power.
The arc's centerpiece is the journey into Hell. Santa Claus uses the Hell Devil's contract to send the entire cast into Hell, where they encounter the Darkness Devil, a Primordial Fear. The Darkness Devil's introduction is one of the most terrifying sequences in manga: astronauts bisected and arranged in prayer, the complete extinguishing of light, and the effortless defeat of every character present. This sequence establishes that devils like the Darkness Devil operate on a completely different plane of existence.
Quanxi and the Four Fiends
Quanxi's introduction adds a morally complex figure to the cast. As the first devil hunter in history and a Crossbow Hybrid, she is nearly unstoppable. Her relationship with her four fiend girlfriends (Cosmo, Long, Pingtsi, and Tsugihagi) adds a layer of genuine affection to an otherwise ruthless character. Her combat style, transforming her arms into rapid-fire crossbows, is brutally efficient. She eventually becomes an ally after Makima kills her girlfriends, giving her a motivation beyond simple survival.
Santa Claus and the Doll Devil
Santa Claus represents the most disturbing example of a devil contractor. Her ability to turn humans into puppets with a touch creates an army of the damned, and her true form in Hell reveals the full horror of her contract with the Darkness Devil. Her demise is karmic: after being defeated by Denji, the Darkness Devil takes her body as payment, leaving her as a puppet in Hell for eternity, fully conscious but unable to control her body.
