Power Overview
Power is one of the main characters of Chainsaw Man Part 1, a Blood Fiend who joins Special Division 4 alongside Denji and Aki. A fiend is a devil that has possessed a human corpse, and Power is specifically the Blood Devil inhabiting a young woman's body. She is characterized by her extreme selfishness, pathological lying, complete disregard for social norms, and surprisingly genuine capacity for friendship and sacrifice.
Power initially encounters Denji when both are tasked with hunting the Bat Devil. After a chaotic series of events that involves betrayal, rescue, and Denji drinking her blood to save his life, Power is assigned to live with Denji and Aki in Public Safety housing. Her presence transforms the apartment into a chaotic household where she refuses to flush the toilet, eats all the food, and declares herself superior to all humans while simultaneously depending on Denji and Aki for emotional support.
Blood Manipulation Abilities
As the Blood Devil in fiend form, Power can freely manipulate her own blood for combat and utility purposes. She can shape her blood into weapons, most commonly a massive blood hammer capable of crushing devils in a single strike. Her blood can also form blades, tendrils, and defensive barriers. She can extend her control to the blood of others if she has consumed it, making her uniquely dangerous against wounded opponents.
The cost of her ability is blood volume: extensive blood manipulation leaves her anemic and weakened, requiring rest and recovery. She can replenish her blood by drinking the blood of enemies, a practice she approaches with characteristic enthusiasm. In her awakened state during the Control Devil Arc, Power demonstrates the ability to manipulate blood at a cellular level, using her blood to create a chainsaw blade for Denji imbued with her consciousness.
Character Arc & Sacrifice
Power begins the series as a purely self-interested creature: she fears death above all else, will abandon allies without hesitation, and views human customs as irrelevant. Her time living with Aki and Denji gradually introduces her to concepts of loyalty, friendship, and self-sacrifice. She resists these changes, masking her growing attachment with exaggerated narcissism, but her actions increasingly reveal genuine care for her housemates.
Her arc reaches its peak during the Control Devil Arc. When Makima kills Power during her systematic destruction of Denji's world, Power's spirit is transported to Hell where the Blood Devil waits. There, she makes a contract with Pochita to resurrect herself temporarily. She returns to Earth, rescues Denji from Makima's control, and then makes the ultimate sacrifice: she gives Denji all of her remaining blood to save his life, asking him to find the reincarnated Blood Devil and make it her friend again. Her final words, acknowledging Denji as her first true friend, mark the series' most devastating emotional moment.
Combat Style & Personality
Power fights with reckless aggression, swinging her blood hammer in wide arcs and relying on her fiend physiology to absorb damage that would kill a human. She is not a tactical fighter; her approach is to hit harder and bleed more than her opponent. This style is effective against lesser devils but leaves her vulnerable against intelligent opponents who can exploit her lack of strategy.
Despite her combat effectiveness, Power's defining trait is her chaotic personality. She lies constantly, often about completely inconsequential matters. She makes grand declarations about her superiority while hiding behind Denji in dangerous situations. She eats voraciously, sleeps in, and treats human society as an amusing game whose rules do not apply to her. Yet beneath this chaos lies a profound loneliness: as a devil in human form, she has never experienced genuine friendship or belonging, making her bond with Denji and Aki her first taste of what it means to be loved.
Relationships
Denji
Power's first and truest friend. Their relationship begins with mutual annoyance and attempted murder, but evolves into something neither will admit: genuine affection. Her sacrifice for Denji is the emotional climax of Part 1 and redefines her character from selfish fiend to selfless friend.
Aki Hayakawa
Aki serves as Power's reluctant caretaker, enduring her toilet habits and food theft with mounting frustration. Their dynamic is antagonistic but warm: Aki provides the structure Power has never known, and Power fills Aki's life with the chaos that keeps his mind off revenge.
Meowy
Power's pet cat, rescued from the Bat Devil. Her attachment to Meowy is her first genuine act of love, and she risks her life to save the cat. Meowy represents the capacity for care that Power always possessed but never had an outlet for before meeting Denji and Aki.
Blood Devil
