Creative Interpretation

Devils are bound by contract letter, not spirit. Aki got Future Devil precognition for free by appealing to its voyeuristic desire to witness his tragic death. This demonstrates that psychological manipulation of devils is possible when their non-material desires align with the contractor's needs.

Contract Nullification

Contracts can be voided by killing the devil, by a more powerful devil overriding the contracted devil, or through chain contracts where one devil's power breaks another's agreement. Makima's control ability effectively nullifies subordinate devils' contracts.

The Denji-Pochita Exception

Denji and Pochita's relationship is the ultimate loophole: not a contract at all. No specified terms, no required sacrifice, no enforcement mechanism. Pochita gave his heart freely. This non-contractual bond is the most powerful in the series precisely because it operates outside the transactional system.
