Violence Fiend Overview
The Violence Fiend is a member of Special Division 4 and one of the most physically powerful combatants in Public Safety. He wears a distinctive plague doctor-style mask that serves a critical function: it suppresses the Violence Devil's inherent bloodlust and aggression. When masked, the Violence Fiend is calm, cooperative, and even friendly, fighting with controlled strength. When the mask is removed, the Violence Devil's true nature emerges, transforming him into an unstoppable berserker.
Key Stat: The Violence Fiend can grow spikes from any part of his body.
The Violence Fiend is partnered with Kobeni Higashiyama, forming one of the division's more unusual pairings: the timid, anxious human supported by the physically imposing but gentle fiend. Their partnership highlights the diversity of Public Safety's approach to devil hunting, where fearsome appearances do not necessarily indicate dangerous personalities.
Abilities & Mask Mechanics
The Violence Fiend's physical strength is exceptional even among fiends. He can shatter concrete, throw enemies across rooms, and trade blows with devil hybrids. His durability is similarly impressive, allowing him to absorb damage that would kill human hunters. The mask serves as both a physical restraint and a psychological barrier: it contains the Violence Devil's impulses, allowing the host personality to maintain control.
When unmasked, the Violence Fiend enters a state of pure destructive rage. In this state, his strength increases dramatically, and he loses all inhibition and tactical awareness. The unmasked state is a weapon of last resort, as the Violence Fiend becomes a danger to allies as well as enemies. The mask is never removed during the main storyline, leaving the full extent of his unmasked power to speculation.
Fate & Legacy
The Violence Fiend is killed during Makima's purge of Special Division 4, dying alongside most of his teammates. His death is notable for its lack of ceremony: unlike Aki, Power, or even Beam, the Violence Fiend dies off-screen, another casualty of Makima's systematic elimination of Denji's support network. His partnership with Kobeni, one of the series' few survivors, becomes a reminder of the colleagues she outlived.
Personality & Humanity
The Violence Fiend is a rare example who actively suppresses devil instincts to protect humans. Unlike Power who maintained her devil personality, the Violence Fiend embraces his human identity, working to protect the same species his nature instinctively wants to harm. He is gentle and thoughtful, a stark contrast to his title. His ability to control violent urges makes him one of the most trusted Special Division members. He represents the series' theme that identity is determined not by nature but by choice.
Abilities & Combat Style
The Violence Fiend's powers are tied to violence itself, granting superhuman strength proportional to battle intensity. He grows stronger as combat escalates. He wields a massive axe delivering devastating blows cleaving through lesser devils. His fiend body absorbs damage that would kill ordinary humans. Unlike hybrids with near-limitless regeneration, he relies on natural fiend durability. His fighting style is methodical and controlled, reflecting his disciplined personality.
Key Story Arcs & Sacrifice
The Violence Fiend appears alongside Special Division during the Katana Man Arc. He plays a support role during Gun Devil Arc buildup. During the Control Devil Arc, he is among the first casualties of Makima's assault. When weapon hybrids attack under Makima's command, he fights valiantly but is overwhelmed, dying in the line of duty protecting the human world he chose to serve. His death reinforces the tragic cost of conflict between devils, humans, and those who seek to control both.
